Privacy Policy for the DailyNote.md App
This section describes data processing by the iOS/macOS app DailyNote.md. The data controller is the same as above (Christopher Rohde, Hans-Löscher-Str. 21, 39108 Magdeburg, Germany, post@christopherrohde.de).
Core Principle: Your Data Stays With You
DailyNote.md stores your journal entries exclusively as Markdown files in a folder (Obsidian vault) that you choose yourself on your device or in your own iCloud storage. The app has no server of its own and no cloud connection — your entries only leave your device if you yourself enable iCloud synchronization for the chosen folder (in which case Apple’s own privacy terms for iCloud apply).
What Data the App Processes
Journal content: Your messages, timestamps, and the template you choose are stored exclusively as local Markdown files in your chosen vault. We have no access to them.
Mood data (optional): If you save a mood alongside an entry, it is stored in the Markdown file itself. You can additionally allow the app to record your mood rating in Apple Health (HealthKit). This data is then subject to Apple’s own safeguards for Health data; the app does not read any existing Health data — it only writes the rating you actively save.
Usage statistics (optional, can be disabled): The app uses TelemetryDeck for anonymous usage statistics (e.g. which features are used). TelemetryDeck does not collect journal content, no device identifier that would allow identification of individual persons, and no IP address in plain text. You can disable this statistic at any time in the app’s settings.
Subscription payment data: The monthly subscription is processed entirely through Apple’s in-app purchase system (StoreKit). Payment and billing data is processed exclusively by Apple; we do not receive any payment information. Apple’s Privacy Policy applies.
Notifications (optional): If you enable a daily reminder, it is scheduled locally on your device. No data is transmitted to us or third parties for this.
Third-Party Services
| Service | Purpose | Privacy Policy |
|---|---|---|
| TelemetryDeck | Anonymous, opt-out usage statistics | telemetrydeck.com/privacy |
| Apple (StoreKit) | Subscription processing | apple.com/legal/privacy |
| Apple (HealthKit, optional) | Storing your mood rating in Health | apple.com/legal/privacy |
| Apple (iCloud, if used by you) | Syncing your vault folder, if you set this up yourself | apple.com/legal/privacy |
Your Rights
Since journal content is stored exclusively and locally on your device, you always have full access and can edit, export, or delete it by editing or removing the corresponding Markdown files in your vault. For the anonymous usage statistics via TelemetryDeck, there is no right of access to individual users due to the lack of personal reference; collection can be disabled at any time in the app’s settings.
